Omv secures additional european gas transmission and pipeline capacities until 2028

Image
The listed oil and gas group OMV has successfully secured additional European gas transport capacities and gas pipeline capacities. This measure serves to secure Austria's gas supply and enables OMV to meet its delivery obligations in the medium term. In this year's annual auction, OMV was awarded gas transportation capacities of approximately 40 terawatt hours (TWh) per year for the period from October 2023 to September 2026. In addition, it secured capacities of approximately 20 TWh per year for the period from October 2026 to September 2028. The border transfer points for the gas  are Oberkappel via Germany and Arnoldstein via Italy. These capacities, together with OMV's alternative non-Russian gas sources, ensure secure delivery to its contract customers. OMV continues to diversify by expanding its gas supply sources. This includes both own production and purchases from Norway as well as additional LNG volumes. As a result, OMV continues to make a significant contribu

wealth of the richest austrians grows despite global trends

This is due to the lower share of financial assets and the increase in corporate assets, which are the biggest factor in assets. In particular, investments in listed companies have benefited from the recovery of the capital markets since mid-May 2023, the cut-off date for the ranking. The ranking is still headed by the Porsche and Piech families, although their assets have fallen slightly to 38.8 billion euros due to share price losses at their most important holdings (Porsche SE, Volkswagen). Mark Mateschitz, who has replaced his father as Austria's richest person, is moving ever closer to the top with the continuing success of Red Bull. His fortune grew by a further 30 percent to around 32.5 billion euros, according to "trend." In third place in the ranking for the first time is Viennese entrepreneur Georg Stumpf, whose German industrial plant manufacturer Exyte expects sales of around seven billion euros this year. Stumpf also has considerable financial assets from p

EU Skepticism in Austria Underpinned

Austrians continue to be among the biggest EU skeptics in Europe. Only 35 percent regard the EU as a whole as "positive," while the EU average is 45 percent. Just under a third of respondents in Austria are in favor of EU enlargement, while across Europe half are in favor. However, just under one-third of Austrian respondents disapprove of the EU as a whole, an increase of four percentage points compared with the previous Eurobarometer. On average in Europe, only 18 percent feel this negatively about the Union. Austrian respondents are particularly skeptical about close military cooperation within the EU. Only 56 percent are in favor of a common EU security and defense policy, compared with 77 percent across Europe. Interestingly, however, there is a high willingness to support Ukraine not only humanitarian and financially. Around two-thirds of Europeans and just under half of Austrians surveyed are in favor of accession candidate status for Ukraine. The survey, entitled &q

FTX co-founder's alleged extravagance comes to light

Image
Following the court filing that shows FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) wants access to FTX’s $460 million in Robinhood shares, Delaware bankruptcy court documents show tens of millions were spent by the FTX team in 2022 on living accommodations, hotels, food, and flights. Moreover, SBF’s quantitative trading firm allegedly owes more than $55,000 to Jimmy Buffett’s beach resort, Margaritaville, after Alameda and FTX executives occupied 20 suites for a few months last year.    With every court filing published, it seems that FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried’s (SBF) so-called “ effective altruism ” wasn’t a top priority during the last nine months. On Jan. 8, 2023, Bitcoin.com News   reported   on SBF telling the  court he needed access to the $460 million in Robinhood shares to “pay for his criminal defense.” Furthermore, the former FTX CEO explained that customers “face only the possibility of economic loss.” Meanwhile, court filings  reviewed  this week detail that FTX’s and

The R&B star charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse

R. Kelly has been charged with multiple counts of criminal sex abuse involving four victims — including minors — in his native Chicago, according to reports Friday, citing court records. The R&B star was hit with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sex abuse in Cook County on Friday. The charges involve incidents from 1998 to 2010, the news outlet reported, noting that at least three of the alleged victims are minors. Prosecutors say the minors were between 13 and 16 years old. According to TMZ, nine of the 10 counts against 52-year-old Kelly, whose real name is Robert Kelly, involve the young teens. One of the victims is the subject of four different counts, and there are a total of four alleged victims. Sources connected to Kelly told TMZ that the singer plans to voluntarily turn himself into authorities Friday night. The charges come after news outlets reported this week that a grand jury convened in Cook County in connection to a sex tape that allegedly showed Ke

It took 50,000 individual photos to create this image of the moon

Image
We’ve seen some pretty stunning images of the moon over the years thanks to high-powered imaging tools from NASA and other space agencies, but you don’t need a massive observatory just to create a gorgeous picture of Earth’s closest neighbor. Photographer Andrew McCarthy produced the incredible moon image you see above, using a Sony camera and a standalone ZWO astronomy camera that you can buy yourself for under $300. The catch? Well, the image isn’t a single photo but the result of some 50,000 individual photos snapped, studied and then stitched together. That’s a lot of work for a single image, but the result suggests it was more than worth it. There’s a ton of detail in the final 81-megapixel image and you could stare at it for a while and still notice new features that jump out at you from the moon’s surface. It’s a gorgeous image and it took plenty of work to make it happen. “The lit side of the moon was processed using 25 ’tiles’ that were stitched together in P
