Nicki Minaj is winning Paris fashion week

Image
Rapper Nicki Minaj is flaunting her assets at Paris Fashion Week. She wore a silver dress to Rick Owens and a pink jacket with thigh-high boots to H&M It’s only Day 3 of Paris fashion week, but Nicki Minaj has been popping up at some of the buzziest shows.  The songbird made her first appearance on Wednesday night at H&M’s see-now, buy-now spring 2017 show. The 34-year-old rapper styled a hot-pink bomber from the fast-fashion retailer alongside a pair of Balenciaga mirrored thigh-high boots (which have already been worn by Kim Kardashian’s daughter, North West). On Thursday, she posed for photographers with Alicia Keys in their front-row seats at Rick Owens. She wore a shimmery silver slip dress, puffy white-fur coat and mirrored shades. Earlier in the day, she popped up at Balmain’s disco-meets-Kurt Cobain’s “Teen Spirit” (with a tie-dye twist) show, wearing a brown dress designed in a signature silhouette of the French house: skintight, ...

Hottest look at Paris Fashion Week won’t keep you warm

Image
Despite the fall chill that took over Sunday during Paris fashion week, actress and fashion darling Dakota Fanning sashayed her way into Valentino’s show wearing the most popular runway trend we’ve seen all week in the City of Light, from Saint Laurent to John Galliano: a see-through black dress with a bra and pair of high-waisted underwear styled underneath. Never mind that scandalous description. Fanning — a true fashion veteran — nailed the look. The starlet paired her sleeveless lace number with minimal but matching accessories: a small black purse and strappy black heels. A slew of stars — Jessica Alba, Diane Kruger and Hailee Steinfeld, to name a few — accompanied Fanning on the front row for designer Pierpaolo Piccoli’s solo debut at the storied house. And what was on offer? A revamped, confident take on the brand’s signature designs: shiny, pleated frocks, ethereal gowns, micro-mini cross-body handbags, and, of course, a variety of takes on Fanning’s flirty...

Luxury brand John Paul Ataker slashes prices

Image
Even high-fashion designers are sensitive to the sticker shock that their clients are feeling. The John Paul Ataker fashion house — a New York City-based brand that hails from Turkey, where the Ataker family has a textile business — showed a line of couture and ready-to-wear outfits at New York Fashion Week that cost 20 percent less this year compared with the company’s prices at last year’s show, reports our Lisa Fickenscher. “Luxury brands are really hurting,” said Kerime Ataker, president of the company at which her brother, Numan, is the designer. “Our price points compared with last year are a little lower, but the quality has not changed at all,” she said, adding that all hidden zippers are imported from Italy. Ataker’s ready-to-wear line ranges from $300 to $1,200; evening wear from $850 to $3,500; and couture from $5,000 to $12,000. One of its celebrity followers, Kelly Osborne, who was on hand at the show, should have no problems affording these luxuries.

How to make a bag that looks like it’s $3,800

Jamie Foxx’s favorite jewelry designer is a 20-year-old college student

Image
Ariel Neman lives a double life. By day, the 20-year-old is a pre-dental student at Baruch College in Manhattan, where he’s entering his junior year. But when school’s out of session, he’s the designer behind Regime NY, a unisex jewelry line that boasts such famous fans as Johnny Depp and rappers Fetty Wap and Tyga. “There are actually very few people in my life who know that I [make jewelry],” says Neman, a gangly 6-foot-3 kid who still lives with his parents in Great Neck, LI. However, it’s become increasingly difficult to keep his side hustle under wraps. “They’ll be like, ‘How did you meet Jamie Foxx?’ Because it’ll be on Instagram.” And his profile is about to get bigger: Regime NY is launching its first official collection in September — cuffs adorned with Roman medallions, giant vintage keys strung on slim chains and sturdy beaded bracelets, ranging from $80 to $300. The unisex jewelery will be available through its Web site, and Neman plans to sell his pieces in loc...

MUST READ: Big boobs are over

Image
Two years ago, Gwen Welborn was in a rough spot. The middle-age single mom had recently divorced, was dealing with her child’s cystic fibrosis and had just lost both her parents in quick succession. “I just wanted to do something good for myself,” says the 52-year-old Wantagh, LI, resident. So she decided to get breast implants. Yet despite her friends urging her to go big, Welborn decided on a more subtle enhancement. Gwen Welborn opted to get small breast implants. Photo: Tamara Beckwith “I was always small-chested, and I wanted to stay small,” says Welborn, who owns a beauty salon in Seaford, LI. “I wanted to continue to run and bike and work out. In my mind, I was looking at someone like Cameron Diaz, someone I had heard had a small implant but you would never look at her and say, ‘Oh, she had surgery.’ ” Now, Welborn is thrilled with her new boobs, which she says are a 32C but look more like a B-cup. “At first I thought they were a little big, because they get swolle...

This girl’s hair is so long that she can wear it as a shirt

Image
A teenager who hasn’t cut her hair for five years has locks so long she can now “wear it” instead of clothes. Sara Beygi, 19, who is known as “Madame Kush” to her Instagram fans, has been dubbed the “real-life Rapunzel” thanks to her flowing brunette locks. The Californian’s mane currently totals 3 feet 7 inches in length – more than half of her 5 feet 6 inches in height – and she has plans to keep on growing it. Sara revealed she often ditches T-shirts in favour of styling clothes out of her hair. She wrote online: “’Wearing my hair as a shirt has become my #uniform.” The model-like beauty, who has racked up more than 8,000 followers, fashions her hair in kooky plaits, beachy waves and high ponytails. she said: “I have my mom do French braids and I love that. “It’s so long that you need another person working in the back because my hand won’t reach that low. When I take them out, I have crazy curls for two days.” It takes Sara half an hour to wash her u...

Ivanka Trump markets her fashion label with RNC dresses

Image
Ivanka Trump waves to the crowd as she walks on stage to deliver a speech during the RNC. Her speech was a success — and so was her dress. Ivanka Trump wore a simple blush-pink shift dress when she gave a rousing address  on behalf of her businessman father, Donald Trump, at the Republican convention Thursday night. But Ivanka, who has her own fashion label, is a businesswoman in her own right — and happened to be selling one almost like it. The morning after her speech, Ivanka tweeted to her nearly 2 million followers, directing them to where they could purchase a $138 version . “Shop Ivanka’s look from her #RNC speech” she tweeted, with a photo of herself looking pretty in pink at the podium. By Friday afternoon, the dress, listed as the “Ivanka Trump Sleeveless Studded Sheath Dress,” was sold out online at Macy’s and Nordstrom. For fashionistas who didn’t click quick enough, all is not lost. The dress that was for sale Friday is actually different from Ivanka’s RNC d...

Ivanka Trump wears her own label's $158 dress to introduce dad

Image
Ivanka Trump doesn’t need a $2,000 designer dress to make an impact. The model entrepreneur introduced her father on the last night of the Republican Convention in Cleveland not in a high-fashion frock, but in a mass-market $158 dress from her own label, according to Women’s Wear Daily. It may not have been the chicest choice — the bold red outfit she sported earlier in the day made more of an impact — but it was a smart one. Ivanka's basic, not-entirely-fitted bandage dress speaks not of her style aptitude but of her business savvy, her smarts, her capability as an advisor to her father and also her wealth — she owns her own company. Yet it also makes her more relatable. Unlike Michelle Obama, designers like Narciso Rodriguez and Maria Cornejo aren’t throwing stuff her way. Her outfit — unassuming, vaguely sexy — puts the focus not only on her but also her father, and aligns them too. By wearing her own line, the 34-year-old mother of two is putting out the message that s...

Melania Trump rocks a wedding dress at the RNC

Image
Melania Trump donned a white Roksanda dress described as a “beautiful option for the modern bride” on stage Monday at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. The “Margot” dress, which retails for $2,190,  quickly sold out in most sizes on Net-a-porter’s retail website  following Trump’s appearance on stage. A spokesperson for Trump told Women’s Wear Daily that she purchased the dress from the website. Roksanda Ilinic, the Serbian-born designer behind the brand, is based in London. Donald Trump’s campaign wants to promote the 46-year-old Slovenian-born model-turned-designer as a 21st-century Jackie Kennedy. “Melania will be recast as the next Jackie O.
