Westfield sets official open time for WTC shopping cente

After more than a decade in the making, the massive shopping center in the new World Trade Center complex will finally open to the public starting at noon on Tuesday.

Westfield, the retail leaseholder, will mark the opening of some 365,000 square feet of stores and restaurants with a private party and a special performance on the underground “Oculus” floor, followed by exclusive VIP cocktails and dinner at Eataly Downtown.

The splashy party invites — the cover sleeve has cutouts to evoke the curved ribs of the Santiago Calatrava-designed underground bowl — don’t reveal the name of the performer.
A free, open-to-the-public “Family Day” celebration will run from noon until 6 p.m. and include hourly performances in the Oculus, as well as samplings from food vendors.

The WTC retail hub will be home to big names including Apple, Daniel Boulud, H&M, Hugo Boss, Lacoste, Kate Spade and Cole Haahn.
